From start to finish the solar-powered retreat center was designed with sustainability and wellness in mind. "The Sanctuary is located at the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, one of only five Blue Zones in the world where a high concentration of people live to be over 100 years old...Our 40 acres are in the jungle only 1000 yards from the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. You can surf in the morning and dip in waterfalls in the afternoon"...The entire resort was hand built with local craftsmen; all the structures are elevated and designed around the existing junglescape. For every tree that was removed and used in the construction process, four new ones were planted...
I moved to Costa Rica while I was filming [the HBO TV series] Entourage, so I'd work on the show for four months, then I'd live in Costa Rica the other eight. I bought a 40-acre property between two rivers, and my dream was to open a yoga retreat center. So I set about building
Yoga has influenced my life so strongly that I built a yoga retreat center in Costa Rica called The Sanctuary at Two Rivers. It is a culmination of all the beautiful aspects of yoga that I have had in my life with the asana practice, amazingly prepared food in the Ayurvedic tradition, and meditation...

The Sanctuary at Two Rivers is a private eco-estate designed specifically for yoga, health and wellness. Although it is comprised of 40 acres, there was a specific intention to design it to cater to smaller, intimate groups (only 14 guests are on the property at one time). This allows for a better teacher-to-student ratio and has less impact on the environment, producing a carbon-neutral experience. The Sanctuary also serves only gourmet vegetarian and vegan cuisine made from local, organic produce...

Every moment at The Sanctuary is yoga, not just the time on the mat. Our most popular offering for retreat guests is the Waterfall Beauty Ritual: we set our intentions, use house-made elixirs of indigenous herbs, minerals, fruits, oils and flowers to adorn, heal and beautify from head to toe, spend some time in silent meditation to connect with nature, and then enjoy a cleansing swim in one of our secret swimming holes beneath a rushing waterfall. 9 Poses for Glowing Winter Skin
“Yoga gives you a glow by boosting your circulation,” says Liz Lindh, a holistic skincare therapist and vinyasa yoga teacher at The Sanctuary at Two Rivers in Cabuya, Costa Rica. “Vital nutrients are more available, so there's more efficient removal of cellular waste. Yoga also promotes lymphatic drainage, which reduces puffiness under the eyes and brightens the complexion.” Lindh created this 9-pose sequence exclusively for YogaJournal.com as an all-natural alternative to the pricey cosmetic solutions. “My yoga practice has expanded my confidence, given me tools to manage stress, and helped me become a happy, healthy, vibrant woman,” she says. “None of this comes in a bottle and it cannot be bought.”
The Sanctuary at Two Rivers is solar powered, eco-conscious resort located in the heart of the Costa Rican jungle, and an ideal environment to cultivate a peaceful mind and healthy eating habits before the holidays.
I love it; it's my yoga retreat and favorite destination. It's located in Costa Rica and it's literally a camp for adults. The resort is so beautiful, located between two waterfalls. I would like the Sanctuary to become a beacon, a special place, for like-minded people to have creative brainstorming sessions in the jungle, as well as eco-summits, family bonding and connecting, and a place for one to expand one's own consciousness. Also, to become as self sustaining as possible by adding a permaculture element to the property and grow our own organic produce. We are already plumbed for it, we just need some more time and energy to embark on this phase. I would like The Sanctuary to be known as a place for anyone to come and experience a yogic lifestyle, one that they can incorporate into their own life patterns once back on-the-grid.
(Liz) Lindh (Director of The Sanctuary) created this 8-pose sequence of detoxifying Kundalini kriyas, or repetitive movements, exclusively for YogaJournal.com to boost energy, promote mental clarity, and rid the body of toxins.
Fall is here! Finally we can toss out our tanks and cut-offs, and cuddle up with a bowl of soup, a sweater, and our sweetie (and by that we mean our dog named, Sweetie). With hints of all 6 tastes, the soup includes celery, carrots, zucchini, pumpkin, white beans, chard, and a fried egg with lemon to excite those taste buds! So try a cup and cuddle up (and it’s OK if its with your pup!)...

No truer words have been spoken (sung) than those of Elvis by way of Presly into my life this past Christmas. I’m a little late on the uptake in my review on what going to a Blue Zone to a tiny jungle destination at The Sanctuary at Two Rivers on the coast between Cabuya and Montezuma on the Pacific Ocean of the Central American Haven, from the sometimes murky waters of “busy” that is the Los Angeles of it all, was like…but in true Pura Vida style, I will banish the negative vibes and forge ahead.
