A journey over the mountains of Montezuma with 13 platforms, a suspension bridge 30 meters high, between trees and 9 cables of various sizes, with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and ending at the majestic river Montezuma, right at the famous waterfalls where you can take a dip.
When you do this as a group, we serve breakfast for you at 7:30am. You and your group leave for base camp at 8:00 where you will get picked up and shuttled less than 15 minutes away for your treetop adventure. Your group will be back at The Sanctuary by 12:30.
Tortuga Island Boat Ride, Snorkeling and Beach Picnic – $65 per person, including transportation and lunch
This is an all day trip. We serve breakfast at 7:45. At 8:00 you and your group walk down to base camp where a shuttle will pick you up at 8:30. The boat leaves at 9am for a 40 minute journey up the coast to a beautiful snorkel spot. You disembark the catamaran and enjoy the popular Tortuga Island, where a barbecue lunch is served (fresh fish, chicken and veggie options). You can also SUP here. You return to The Sanctuary by 5:30.
Surf Lesson – $50 for two hours including board and rash guard rental. Transportation to the surf spot may incur additional al charge. The instructors we work with are proficient at teaching all levels and all ages. If you have no experience what-so-ever or are an advanced surfer, they customize the lesson to meet your needs and desires. The timing and location depend on the tides and level of experience.
REQUIRED TO BRING
When you arrive at The Sanctuary’s base camp, their friendly staff members will greet you and collect your luggage for transport. Please wear your river shoes upon arrival for a 25 minute guided nature walk up jungle paths and river crossings into the heart of The Sanctuary at Two Rivers. You will be escorted to your Jungle Loft where your luggage will be waiting.
You will need to bring a flashlight with batteries, sturdy river walking shoes, insect repellant, eco-friendly personal care products, basic first aide necessities and cash for taxis ($50 each way from Tambor airstrip to The Sanctuary), staff gratuity (suggested amount is $10 per night for dining service, daily house keeping, luggage transport, concierge services and more) and wellness services ($40-$100 per treatment). They have yoga mats and props, but I recommend bringing a towel because it will get sweaty ;).
RECOMMENDED TO BRING
We also recommend bringing the following to make your stay more enjoyable:
Flip flops, sandals, or crocs for garden walking
Cash for taxis, spa services and staff gratuities (US dollars are just fine, no need
to exchange for Costa Rican Colones)

TRAVEL DETAILS
STEP 1- FLIGHT TO SAN JOSE COSTA RICA
Flying In and Out of Costa Rica at San Jose International Airport
San Jose International Airport (SJO) is the most convenient airport to The Sanctuary.
Frequent international flights are available at this modern airport.
For your travel, plan at least two hours between local air and international travel.
STEP 2- FROM SAN JOSE- A SHORT LOCAL FLIGHT to Tambor, then by Taxi to The Sanctuary at Two Rivers
It is very easy to get here with a 25 minute flight from San Jose International Airport to Tambor Airstrip
where a taxi will drive you through the famous Nicoya Peninsula Blue Zone.
We are about a 40 minute drive from Tambor Airstrip.
Book a 20 minute domestic flight from SJO to Tambor on Sansa Airlines.
Please allow at least 2 hours from your International arrival time in order to clear Immigration and
Customs and to check-in for the Domestic flight.
There is a $2.25 airport tax upon arrival and departure from Tambor.
We will coordinate taxi service from Tambor to The Sanctuary.
Cost is $50 for up to four people or $10 per person for five or more people in the same taxi.
We will arrange a shared taxi with other retreat guests whenever possible, sometimes this means a short
wait in Tambor for other flights to arrive.
Prices are subject to change and you will pay the driver directly. No need to tip unless you require special services.
OR – SHUTTLE to The Sanctuary
An option to flying, we can prearrange land transportation (shuttle bus for a group or
private taxi for individuals) from San Jose directly to The Sanctuary via roads and a ferry
that crosses Nicoya Bay to the Nicoya Peninsula. This might be economical for a large
group and is approx. 5 hours. Prices start at $260.
Individuals can book their own shuttle through Montezuma Expeditions or Tropical Tours
for approx. $50.
Shuttles leave San Jose early every morning and will bring you directly
to The Sanctuary. This is about a 6 hour trip.
We do not recommend renting a car and do not have parking.
